Applications are now open for the first edition of the INFN STEAM Summer Camp, a national summer camp organized by INFN (the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics) and aimed at students in grades III, IV, and V of Italian secondary schools or Italian schools abroad. The project partners are Fondazione ICSC (the National Research Center for High Performance Computing, Big Data, and Quantum Computing) and Cineca.

Registration details

The INFN STEAM Summer Camp will be held from July 13 to 17 in Bertinoro (FC) and will be an opportunity for students from all over Italy to come together and explore topics such as particle physics, supercomputing, and artificial intelligence, as well as learn new communication strategies that combine storytelling, comics, games, and science. It will be an opportunity to discover the synergy between school and industry, but also to be inspired by the world of scientific research.

There are 45 places available through the INFN, which can be accessed through a selection process based on a letter of recommendation for the student from a teacher and a video of no more than 2 minutes in which the candidate must explain their interest in science and technology and their reasons for wanting to participate in the INFN STEAM Summer Camp.

Applications to participate in the competition must be completed and submitted to INFN electronically via the website https://reclutamento.dsi.infn.it (call for applications 27537) no later than March 31, 2025 (11:59:59 p.m.). The application must be accompanied by an unpublished two-minute video in which the candidate describes themselves, their interest in science and technology, and their reasons for wanting to participate in the Camp. The video must be uploaded to the following web page: https://agenda.infn.it/event/44481/

In addition, the teacher indicated as the contact person in the online application procedure must send the student’s letter of introduction by April 10, 2025 (11:59:59 p.m.).

The project

The INFN STEAM Summer Camp is a project carried out through the INFN Third Mission Coordination Committee (CC3M), which supports public engagement projects promoted by the research community through an internal peer review process. The project is sponsored by MUR – Ministry of University and Research, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Municipality of Bertinoro.
